Launched in 2021 under Kolmar Korea’s sustainability initiative, Freemay sources its hero ingredient—green tea—from Boseong’s fog-covered plantations, where leaves harvested at dawn contain 20% more theanine due to unique microclimate exposure. The brand’s waterless formulations save 3 liters of water per product compared to industry averages, while its cleansing oil uses emulsifiers derived from upcycled rice bran oil, a byproduct of Korea’s traditional liquor industry. Freemay’s manufacturing schedule runs from 10 PM to 6 AM to reduce energy grid strain, and its “1 Product = 1 Meal” program has donated over 200,000 meals to the Korean Food Bank. Holding both Vegan Society and Leaping Bunny certifications, the brand sends employees to volunteer at organic tea farms during harvest season.

We do not sell any products that contain phthalates, parabens, drying alcohols, mineral oil, or polyethylene glycols (PEGs).

  • Phthalates and parabens are known endocrine disruptors and may impact hormone function.
  • Drying alcohols like ethanol or isopropyl alcohol can strip natural oils leading to dryness, irritation, or even disruption of the skin barrier. Fatty alcohols like cetyl or stearyl alcohol are moisturizing and generally regarded as safe so we allow these types of alcohols.
  • Mineral oil is petroleum-derived and can trap bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells under the skin. Mineral oil works by “sealing” the skin but not moisturizing it – it basically just traps in whatever moisture is there. For many people, it can cause clogging and exacerbate breakouts.
  • PEGs are petroleum-derived compounds that are often contaminated with carcinogens like 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide during manufacturing. These contaminants are byproducts of the ethoxylation process and must be removed through a purification method called vacuum stripping — but not all manufacturers do this consistently. We’re not willing to take the chance on you!

Fragrance is one of the top causes of contact dermatitis and allergic reactions. It can be especially irritating for people with sensitive skin, eczema, and rosacea. “Fragrance” or “Parfum” is typically a catch-all term that can include hundreds of undisclosed chemicals including phthalates, allergens, and volatile organic compounds. While we would not recommend fragrance for anyone with sensitive skin, it can be non-disruptive for combination and dry skin types.

Silicones are used in skincare to create a smooth, silky texture – the “blurred” effect. However, silicones work by sealing the skin and not effectively moisturizing it. Silicone ingredients like cyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and cyclopentasiloxane (D5) are under environmental scrutiny. While they’re generally regarded as safe, they’re not biodegradable and we wouldn’t recommend products with silicones for anyone with acne-prone or dry skin.

Vegan products exclude ingredients that are derived from animals or animal byproducts. Our algorithim checks all product ingredients to ensure our products marked as “vegan” are truly animal-free. Vegan products exclude ingredients like keratin, collagen (unless specifically listed as “vegan”), snail mucin, honey, royal jelly, lactic acid, squalene, and tallow.

Pregnancy safe skincare means avoiding ingredients that could potentially harm a developing baby or cause hormonal disruption. Our algorithm checks all product ingredients for endocrine disruptors, hormone disruptors, carcinogens, ingredients that may impact fetal development, and generally any ingredient where there are limited studies showing safety in pregnancy. Some examples of ingredients that are not pregnancy safe iinclude retinol, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, parabens, adapalene, and fragrances. We even exclude ingredients like glycolic acid which may be safe in low doses but we aren’t willing to take the chance.
